Jeff Bezos' Ex-Wife Mackenzie Scott Refuses To Give All Of Her Divorce Earnings To Her Children When She Dies

(TheThings) - Mackenzie Scott shares four kids with Amazon and Amazon Prime founder. Although these kids are virtually anonymous in contrast to Bezos' future step-son, Nikko Gonzalez who is living a lavish and in-your-face life on Instagram. But it's clear that Bezos' fiance, Lauren Sanchez, and her son live life very differently than Scott, who all but vanished after she won her $38.3 billion divorce settlement.

  • Mackenzie Scott plans to give away most of her children's inheritance, choosing to donate her billions to charity instead.
  •  Despite their highly publicized divorce, Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott remain on good terms and are committed to co-parenting their four kids.
  •  Mackenzie Scott has been extremely philanthropic, giving billions of dollars to various charitable organizations, with a focus on LGBTQ+ rights and racial equality.

Despite a highly publicized divorce settlement from her multi-billionaire ex-husband, Mackenzie Scott has said little about her life. However, she has stated that she plans on giving most of her children's inheritance away. Here's why...

Are Jeff Bezos And Mackenzie Friends Following Their Divorce And Settlement Battle?

Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott were married from 1993 to 2019 and appear to be on decent terms following their divorce. After 25 years of marriage, Bezos took to Twitter to share his support for his ex-wife.

"We've had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures," Jeff Bezos wrote on Twitter in 2019, not long before it was announced that he had an affair with helicopter pilot Lauren Sanchez.

"Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends."

Scott echoed these sentiments once the divorce settlement was finalized.

"Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to next phase as co-parents and friends," Scott wrote on Twitter.

Bezos, who plans to give over $100 million to Maui wildlife victims, was forced to hand over $38.3 billion of his $161 billion net worth to his ex-wife. But that seems like a pretty fair deal given the accusations of him cheating on her, according to The New York Post.

The Amazon founder is also well on his way to becoming a trillionaire, according to Forbes. So, the $38.3 billion is just a drop in the bucket for him. Additionally, it means that he and his ex-wife can have a decent enough relationship in order to support their four kids.

Will Mackenzie Scott Give Her Kids An Inheritance?

According to MoneyWise, Mackenzie Scott doesn't plan on giving any of her four children the entirety of the billions she won in her divorce settlement with her first husband Jeff Bezos.

Without a doubt, Scott is one of the richest, if not THE richest woman on the planet after her divorce from the multibillion-dollar Amazon founder. Although she certainly didn't just get rich because of the divorce. She had been working at a hedge fund when she first met the now legendary entrepreneur.

Scott was also one of Amazon's very first employees. Although, once Amazon started to take off, she took more of a backseat in order to raise the children she had with Bezos.

Various sources claim that Mackenzie Scott is worth $38.3 billion, but other sources claim that her net worth is closer to $53 billion. After all, she was just awarded $38.3 billion in January 2023.

News that Mackenzie Scott vows not to share the entirety of her net worth with her children has been confirmed by multiple sources, including Fox Business.

MoneyWise claimed that Scott signed a Giving Pledge. In it, she vows to give more than half of her net worth to charity and not pass it down to her children.

"My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful," Mackenzie Scott wrote in her Giving Pledge letter in 2019, according to MoneyWise. "It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty."

While Mackenzie Scott doesn't plan on giving the majority of her net worth to her children, it does stand to reason that she will be giving some of it to them. And, at the time of this writing, Jeff Bezos has not signed the same pledge. Although we know next to nothing about their children and his plans for them. However, it doesn't appear as though they will be completely cut out of their outlandishly wealthy parents' respective wills.

Which Charities Does Mackenzie Scott Give Money To?

According to The Daily Mail, Mackenzie Scott has been extremely philanthropic over the past few years. In 2020 she gave $1.7 billion to 116 non-profit organizations,

according to Medium. Her personal passion is promoting LGBTQ+ rights and racial equality. So the vast majority of her charitable donations have gone to support initiatives that support those causes around the world. All in all, Scott's 2020 giving exceeded $5.8 billion.

In 2021, according to Forbes, this amount increased. She reportedly gave away $8.5 billion across 780 organizations. These organizations included Habitat For Humanity, Planned Parenthood, and The Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation which claimed they received $122.6 million from Scott.

Bezos' ex-wife also donated two of her L.A. mansions to the California Community Foundation, according to The New York Times. The profits of the sale of these homes will fund affordable housing programs.

Scott doesn't just support initiatives that spend most of their time and effort within the United States of America. Many of the organizations that she supports reach far and across the ocean.

According to The New York Times, Mackenzie Scott supports multiple charities in Kenya, Brazil, Latin America, and Micronesia.

While Scott has received a ton of praise for her charitable work, a post to Medium landed her in hot water. This is due to her desire to withhold the amount of money she has spent on charity and which charities she's supported. However, with much information out there (including that listed above) it's abundantly clear that Mackenzie Scott gives a truly inspiring amount of money away.
