Leonard Cohen's $48M Inheritance is Angrily Disputed by His Children

(MARCA) - Accusations of forgery, secrecy and allegations that Leonard Cohen did not trust his sons to take charge of managing his estate, the legendary Canadian musician's two sons, Lorca and Adam Cohen, are fighting in Los Angeles Superior Court to remove attorney Robert Kory as trustee of the Leonard Cohen Family Trust.

According to information from the New York Post, this trust controls tens of millions of dollars in royalties for Cohen's music, as well as poetry, novels, photographs and 243 diaries from the musician's teenage years. All of this is valued at some $48 million.

They allege that his father "made a mistake" in appointing Kory

Cohen died in November 2016, and his children have since alleged that the musician acknowledged, shortly before, that "he had made a grave mistake in allowing Kory to meddle in his affairs and take control of aspects of Leonard's finances and legacy," according to court documents.

Lorca and Adam claim that Kory has failed to keep them informed of recent efforts to monetize his legacy, such as the posthumous publication of the novel "A Ballet of Lepers" and the opening of "Everybody Knows," an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.

They also allege that Kory has employed his son Ryan to file Cohen's personal papers, which include copious notes on his greatest hits.

Evidence of document forgery presented

A lawyer hired two months ago by Cohen's children claims there is enough evidence to prove that Kory forged documents in 2005 to control the singer's legacy.

"Leonard Cohen's lawyers and manager forged his trust so they could control the millions of dollars inheritance and steal Leonard's legacy," stated attorney Adam Streisand, cousin of legendary singer Barbra Streisand.

Kory, 72, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in the court documents, and claims she has kept Lorca and Adam informed of all the handling of their father's finances.
